Notes

I can still recall the following words that changed my life, though I can’t remember who said them: “Every time you leave the house lies an opportunity to be inspired.” Since then, I have found wandering, exploring my surroundings, and uncovering the beauty in the seemingly mundane energizing and nourishing. My music, especially “Wanderlust,” is a testament to my appreciation for life’s little wonders.

The wind ensemble has always held a special place in my heart. My high school band introduced me to composing, nurtured my confidence, and honed my leadership skills as a teacher. Being a life-long “band kid” has even enabled me to travel the world and visit places I could have only dreamt of experiencing. During a 2014 around-the-world tour with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, I imagined writing a piece that would be a love letter to the band genre that would encapsulate the enchantment of wind ensemble music, travel, discovery, and adventure in a piece that flows, in one big breath, seamlessly from start to finish.
